Jorge Leyva: a Joplin Toadcast artist interview

For issue 3 of the Joplin Toad, we are proud to bring you the wisdom and joy of one of Joplin’s most prolific artists: Jorge Leyva. Originally hailing from Peru, Jorge moved here to be a student at Missouri Southern. There, a professor expressed to him that he had an artistic ability that should never be ignored. Thankfully, Jorge listened.

30 years later, Jorge has a lot to say about the value of art and the way in which it is both made and meant to be viewed. He also talks of progression of Joplin, and the message of “home” that this city has inspired in his work.

In tones as richly accented as the art he produces, Jorge provides a delightful and inspiring conversation that you can listen in on.
